Performance Rotors

Venting the gas from super heated brake pads improves overall brake performance. Of the various venting methods, slotting has the clear advantage. Slotting, unlike drilling, is not prone to cracking. Plus drilling delivers considerably less active braking surface - 8% less than Power Slot Rotors. The tapered slot also channels brake dust and heat away from the rotor and pad for improved braking ability. An EradiSpeed+ hat is CNC machined from billet or forged aluminum and anodized black. The hats and rotors are joined by the same hardware used in Indy cars. While EBC brake pads will work well with original equipment and good quality brake rotors, the award-winning EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors will enhance a vehicle’s appearance while they help it stop.

One look at the EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors through a vehicle’s wheels reveals a "Full Sweep" groove pattern that helps keep the surfaces of the brake pads clean (by scraping away burnt carbon deposits from the pad’s surface) and ensures parallel brake pad wear. Then, "Blind Hole" dimples provide a “cross-drilled rotor" look while reducing the chance of the rotor cracking around the holes. Most import applications feature a gold anodized finish while most domestic applications are offered with a black finish.

EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors reduce brake fade by helping evacuate the surface film of gases that are often released during heavy braking. All brake pads contain some organic (living) materials, like the petro-chemical resins that bind the friction materials together. As the organic materials “overheat," they revert to gases that may cause the brake pads to lose some of their contact with the rotor, essentially “aquaplaning" away from the rotor on a film of gases. While some pads only fade once or twice before they settle down, the Sport Grooved Brake Rotors’ grooves and dimples help evacuate surface gases to reduce brake fade.

While EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors are appropriate for “track day" applications, they should not be used for racing.

If you are using Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors for “track day" use, you MUST USE EBC REDSTUFF GRADE TRACK DAY BRAKE PADS. The amount or heat that can be put into the vehicle’s rotor system at a track day is hundreds of degrees more than is possible to achieve in road use. The Redstuff grade brake pads are appropriate because they are designed to:

  • Last longer in track use

  • Draw more heat out of the disc due to their design and construction

  • Give less brake fade

If you intend to use Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors for track days, you should always take spare brake pads. If your car is running Greenstuff pads on the street, you should switch to Redstuff brake pads for track day use and then switch back to the Greenstuff brake pads for the journey home.

Since this material was introduced in late 2003, it has received many positive write ups from performance drivers of faster cars such as the Impreza. EBC Greenstuff has a high initial brake effect and gives drivers confidence from first application of the brake pedal. There is no such thing as a NO DUST pad. The very nature of how a brake works requires that some dust be generated to avoid rotor vibration (shimmying). The EBC pad creates less dust and dust is more easily washed off than most. Goodridge G-Stop High Performance Brakeline race-bred street brake lines are constructed from the finest quality hose, consisting of a PTFE inner hose covered by braided stainless steel. In addition to providing a more responsive and firm brake pedal by eliminating the “spongy” feel that often accompanies stock rubber brake lines, G-Stop High Performance Brakelines are abrasion and corrosion resistant to stay good looking for a long time to come.

Goodridge G-Stop High Performance Brakeline Kits are direct bolt-on replacements for all of the rubber brake lines in the vehicle’s brake system. (Three to six brake lines are included in each kit depending on the vehicle’s original design). To ensure proper fit and easy installation, hose ends and brake line brackets that match the vehicle’s original equipment style are used for each application.

By conforming to all requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 106, Goodridge G-Stop High Performance Brakelines are U.S. Department of Transportation certified and T.U.V. approved. All Goodridge G-Stop High Performance Brakelines go through a 9-point Quality Assurance testing process that includes measuring tensile strength and the ability to contain line pressure to 3,000 pounds per square inch.

HYPERFIRM brake hoses not only meet all D.O.T. standards and specifications for flexible brake hoses, including SAE J 1401 (Jan 81) and FMVSS 106-74-38 FR31302 1973.  They are individually inspected and tested before shipment.  Batch testing, the industry standard is not acceptable at Earl's.  Each individual hose assembly is pressure tested at 4000 psi after manufacture.

 

Serious race car owners have used flexible brake hoses of extruded Teflon™ for decades. They are protected against abrasion and swelling by a sheath of tightly braided stainless steel wire. The resistance to “lineswell” both improves the firmness or “feel” of the brake pedal and reduces the time required for effective pressure to reach the brakes and begin to slow the car. Equally important in street vehicles, improvement in pedal firmness and feel make brake modulation easier and more efficient—right up to the time that the anti–lock brake system is actuated. The familiar brake pedal “thump” of anti–lock brake systems is significantly reduced. The decreased system reaction time reduces stopping
distance in emergency situations—as much as 18 feet at 80 miles per hour.
The Teflon™/stainless steel brake hoses have not been available for legal use on street driven vehicles until recently. All safety–related components on street vehicles must meet stringent requirements and tests set forth by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The most demanding test for brake hoses is the “whip test,” designed to simulate the continuous flexing of the hoses during suspension and steering movement. Until Earl's developed and patented their exclusive “whip dampener,” Teflon™/stainless steel hoses were not able to pass this extremely rigorous test. The D.O.T. does not “approve” any products. It calls out specifications and test procedures that the components must meet. The manufacturers then self–certify that they are in compliance. The D.O.T. may randomly require that components be tested by an independent certified laboratory selected by the D.O.T.
